Cecil Aquatic Center/Recreation Complex

Cecil Aquatic Center/Recreation Complex

The $25 million project was part of the 2000 Better Jacksonville Plan. The aquatic center facility, built for $5.7 million in 2004, has an Olympic-sized pool and a family/exercise pool. The heated indoor pools can be used year-round, but in the summer, large glass panels are opened for air circulation. The facility has hosted scores of high school swim meets since 2004. In addition to open swimming, lessons are available for children and adults. Infants and toddlers have their own programs, water babies and water tots, respectively. Water aerobics classes are utilized by many senior citizens and a youth swim team is sponsored during the summer. The Bolles School

The Bolles School is a private college preparatory school with an international reputation for excellence. Located in Jacksonville, Florida. The Bolles Sharks swimming program facilitates training and stroke instruction in Bolles’ 50-meter (Uible Pool) and 25-yard pool (Lobrano Pool). In 2000 Portofino Pools was awarded a contract for complete Swimming Pool Operations: cleaning, maintenance, chemicals and water-quality services. Semmes Aquatic Center

Designed as a replica of the water polo pool used in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, the Semmes Aquatic Center, 572,000 gallons, is one of Episcopal’s premier athletic facilities. As one of only two 50-meter high school pools in Northeast Florida, the Semmes Aquatic Center is the only one that has met the minimum depth requirement to permit starting blocks to be used for races. The 10 lanes are kept warm in the colder months with solar covers. Read more

The original pool was built in the 1960’s. Portofino Pools was awarded a renovation contract in 1997 and at completion awarded a contract for complete Swimming Pool Operations: cleaning, maintenance, chemicals and water-quality services. Portofino Pools has performed these services continuously for the past 19+ years.

 In 2010 Portofino Pools was retained as an aquatic consultant to study and submit recommendations for a major remodel design and engineering to demolition the existing floor sloping from 3-feet to 18-foot depth and re-build at a nominal 5-foot depth. Read more

Flagler College

The architectural heritage of the former Hotel Ponce de Leon, listed as a National Historic Landmark. Built by railroad magnate, Henry M. Flagler in 1888, the Ponce is considered one of the finest examples of Spanish Renaissance architecture and was one of the most exclusive resorts of its day. The 160,000-gallon pool was built circa 1900, perhaps one of the oldest, if not the oldest, commercial pool in Florida. In 2002 Portofino Pools was retained as an aquatic consultant to study and submit recommendations for major restoration that met National Historic Landmark guidelines. Read more

Trinidad and Tobago

In 2013 retained by the Ministry of Sports, a public/private partnership of the Islands Government, Olympic Committee and one of the country’s major liquefied natural gas exporters, to establish swimming pool health/safety standards and train/certify pool operators. Jack Manilla as a Certified National Swimming Pool Foundation Instructor successfully conducted a live classroom 16-hour course and all 18 participants passed the required written examination and were officially recognized as Certified Pool Operators, CPO®. The NSPF® Certified Pool/Spa Operator® (CPO®) Certification program, is the world’s leading verifiable pool and spa training credential. Read more

Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines Pool

Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines Pool

In 2000 Jack Manilla was retained by Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines to train/certify their Asia-Pacific Fleet officers and crews sailing from ports in China, South Korea, Taiwan, Japan, Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand. For 6-weeks in the Asia-Pacific, Jack Manilla travelled ship to ship as a Certified National Swimming Pool Foundation Instructor successfully conducting live classroom 16-hour courses and for all ship’s officer on each individual ship while at sea. A second live classroom 12-hour course was also conducted for all ship maintenance crews. Read more
